Fort Ord Dunes State Park is a newly opened state park which features expansive views of the Monterey Bay. This recently opened state park has a 1,500 foot trail to 4 miles of ocean beach for hiking and bicycling roads and shoreline. Opened in 2009, the park, which spans almost 1,000 acres, has gorgeous panoramas.
Eight educational panels have been installed that will inform the public about the natural and cultural history of the park. You can use your cell phone to learn more about the history of Fort Ord and its cultural and natural features. There is also a boardwalk taking you to the top of a bluff where there is a viewing platform. Formerly used as a weapons firing range the dunes are now home for many endangered birds and other wildlife.
