"This is like no other motel I've stayed in. Everything is fresh and clean. Big bedroom. Bathroom is clean and everything in it works as it should. You even get breakfast included. For the money this cannot be beaten."

"Hidden gem" 5/5

"Before making plans for our trip to Monterey, a birthday celebration for me, I did my usual checking of online reviews for the various Monterey area motels, particularly on TripAdvisor. This motel is #9 on the list, and for a good reason. The only slight negative I could see in the reviews was that the continental breakfast was fairly basic, but everything else sounded perfect, and the rate was excellent, so I booked it. On arrival we found the lobby to be fresh, nicely decorated and immaculate. The desk person was friendly and helpful. We asked for an upstairs, quiet room and got #11, which is in the corner where the two wings meet. It was the perfect choice. It's the last room on the long wing, so nobody walks past you and it's tucked to the back looking out to a neighborhood, so you don't hear any noise at all from the parking lot, or road traffic. The location is outstanding, only minutes from the Bay and downtown Monterey. The room was large and also immaculate, as was the bathroom with a marble tub/shower and floor and sparkling sink and counter. There's a mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker, and ironing board and iron. The towels were fluffy and soap and shampoo were as expected. The continental breakfast wasn't fancy, but perfectly adequate, with breads for toast, pastries, mini muffins, fresh apples and oranges, 4 types of juice, tea, coffee and 2 cereal choices. There's also a small pool. I hesitate to provide this review, as I'd like to keep this hidden gem to myself!"

"Surprisingly nice" 5/5

"I was a bit afraid at first because of the freeway nearby, but the room was quite silent and comfy, with everything you need for a short stay. Breakfast was very correct too and the walk to the beach/wharf doesn't take more than 15 minutes if you don't have/need a car."

"Arrived in Monterey for a couple of days visit. The room was excellent and included all the amenities we needed for the short visit. The staff was very friendly and the location was close to all the tourist spots in Monterey and Carmel. We would definitely recommend this wonderful hotel for it's value as well as it's very well maintained rooms and buildings. Will definitely come back if near Monterey in the future."

"Quiet place near the park that really needs an elevator for 2nd floor guests" 4/5

"My wife and I just stayed here Monday the 17th in the King junior suite (rm 202). The room was very spacious and nicely designed. The check-in gentleman was friendly and helpful as well. The bed in our room was very comfortable. The flat mount TV image quality (not reception)on certain channels left a lot to be desired. The bed is also only made with one flat sheet and a comforter. Overall I would give it an overall rating of 4 stars. The location can be a little tricky to find (10th street is on left before busy intersection)."

Special Tip

Go to Old Monterey Cafe or LouLous on the pier (tiny place but ohhhh soooo good BTW LouLous is closed on Tuesdays. Best drinks and happy hour is at Hulas Island Grill in Monterey. Los Lobos State Reserve is a MUST for anyone visiting Monterey.

Pros

room size (king junior suite) bed comfortable modern contemporary furnishings friendly check-in staff.

Cons

NO ELEVATOR IN BUILDING bedding consisted of a single top sheet and a lite comforter. Towels were hard and not comfortable to dry with TV image quality is low on many channels and television should be on swivel wall mount so it can be watched while in bed
